AUSTIN, (Rodeo Austin) – Rodeo Austin presents the first-ever Ultimate Scramble Championship, a unique twist on the traditional Calf Scramble including a sports tournament format and $75,000 in certificates.
Rodeo Austin is transforming a Rodeo tradition into an event unlike any other. Starting in 2012, the Calf Scramble every Rodeo fan and livestock exhibitor knows is now a cutting-edge competition. Now titled Ultimate Scramble Championship (USC), the event has been revamped as Rodeo Austin’s extreme sport for youth. Unlike any other Calf Scramble program, USC is an exciting one-day tournament in which competitors catch calves to advance to the next round. In true tournament format, competitors advance through several rounds in hopes of making it to the championship round. USC competitors will vie for a total of $75,000 in certificates which will go towards the purchase of an animal of their choice for a livestock project. The following animals will be allowed for purchase with the new USC certificates: market steer, market lamb, market goat, market barrow, breeding heifer and breeding goat.
USC will take place in an arena in the Wild West Tent on the east side of the Rodeo Austin Fairgrounds. The first heat begins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday March 17, 2012. The top athletes will compete at the finals in the Rodeo Arena at 7:00 p.m. that night after advancing through the two rounds of competition. Those 16 finalists will compete for a total of $25,000 to be awarded based on their placing. The first person to catch a calf and cross the finish line will be named Ultimate Scramble Champion and will be awarded an unprecedented purchase certificate amount of $5,000. Second place will receive a $2,500 purchase certificate; third place will receive a $2,000 purchase certificate and fourth through eighth place will receive a $1,500 purchase certificate. All other competitors who caught a calf during the tournament will receive $1,000 purchase certificates.
